A SMALL CHILD, A BIG BLESSING!
by Mani Skaria, PhD
This morning at St. Gregorious Orthodox Church in McAllen, Texas, we were blessed by a special visitor(s). Two-year-old Zeke came from Philadelphia with his parents—both in the medical profession—and former members of our church family. It felt like a beautiful homecoming.
I had the joy of watching the two-year-old, Zeke play the drum. For some time we talked without words—just fingers, smiles, and trust.
He spoke, he is two years old, confirming with his two fingers.
I jokingly showed him my four fingers on my right hand and told him I am three years-old.
He took me seriously, without a hint of doubt about my IQ.
Or in his mind, he thought this person is silly – No wonder my own granddaughter calls me, Silly Goose Grandpa, Lalli.
Then came the moment I’ll never forget.
He blessed me with his cross at the end of his gold chain on his neck.
At just two years old, his faith was pure and natural—a reflection of love, faith, and devotion learned at home, input from parents and grandparents.
Moments like this don’t happen by accident.
A simple encounter. A profound blessing.
Congratulations to Zeke and his wonderful parents, Achu and Dustin a PA and an assistant professor in PA.
What a wonderful beginning.
They drove off to Houston and fly back to PA.
